I Wore Red To Target

I wore red to Target
Not the best idea
I wore red to Target
And everybody near
Asked me “do you work here?”
Said “can you help me miss?”
Come on don’t you know
I can’t take much more of this

Guess I was asking for it
Cause look what I started
Had it coming to me when
I wore red to Target

Tried hiding in the bathroom
I thought that would be safer
‘Til someone said “hey miss
We’re out of toilet paper!”
If one more person bugs me
I swear I’ll flip my lid
This woman came up to me
And that’s just what she did

Guess I was asking for it
Cause look what I started
Had it coming to me when
I wore red to Target

I could have gone to another market
I could have worn blue or green
But I had to go to Target tell me what did it mean
Did it mean did it mean
Did it mean did it mean

I made up some fake discounts
I gave her wrong directions
I told her there were frying pans
In the electronics section
Then I felt so much better
And everything was fine
Until when I discovered
I was in back of her on line

Guess I was asking for it
Cause look what I started
Had it coming to me when
I wore red to Target

This is another poem that I published many moons ago but added some lyrics to make it in to a song. It also happens to be the first recorded CheeseBergens song that my 9 year old daughter sings. Let me know what you think.

Also, the music is free to listen to, but if anyone is so inclined to make a donation, all funds will be given to the Ovation Music Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to helping underserved kids pay for music school tuitions.

  1. Thanks for the laugh! I asked some guy wearing a badge at Costco where to find the paper towels. He walked me to them and when I thanked him I noticed his badge was for a difference company. I called him out on it and he said, “It was easier to show you than explain I didn’t work here…” I still have a good chuckle over that!

  2. Loved the song – especially when you started giving bogus information with the karmic twist at the end! I agree with VPub though – the picture is the best. The family that plays together …. 🙂

  3. Couldn’t play the video here on my app, so I searched for it on Youtube and saw the one Live at the Mint! Wow! Your daughter has got the voice and confidence – imagine for a nine yr old! She rocks!
Now, about the lyrics, did you know I worked at Target briefly? And yes, don’t wear red to target!!! I tell myself that every time I go out and there’s a slight chance we may stop by there (until realize it’s too late – I’m inside the store already! Aaaargh!) I love it, though! The song, I mean. Not wearing red to target my mantra. Ha!

  4. Love this one Marissa! Currently have no headphones though, so I’ll have to listen to your tiny rock princess later. Not sure if the commuters of London Town on a slient train are quite ready for her….

  5. Oh my gosh! This is SO good! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!! Who is the main vocalist? Is that you or your daughter? Marissa, I really enjoyed this and you know this is really not my type of music. I had FUN listening to this! You guys so deserve to go places! Just wow! ❤

  6. This was super, Marissa! You were right on target with your rhymes, music and beat to the syllables.
Your daughter has a pretty voice like her other members of the family but higher than Dad or brother. 😉 She has a cool “lilt” or upbeat ending to some of the words which is really unique! Wow, the instrumental part is catchy, too!!

      • I enjoyed the style of her singing and could tell she was a girl but do agree, her voice sounds mature! 🙂 I may have her name wrong but I want to call her Angelica. Only two “l’s” in her name. . . Maybe? 🙂
Happy holidays to you and the rest of the. Cheesebergens!! hugs xo
