My birthday was early this week
And I did sit engrossed
With all the love and friendship that
Came via Facebook post
And to all those who wished me well
I’d really like to say
How wonderful you made me feel
Upon my special day
But then reality set in
And with it came depression
And time for me to now fixate
Upon my new obsession
For though I should be thankful for
The nice wishes I got
I can not help but think of who
Conveniently forgot
And with a cut so sweet and quick
They’ll never see it comin’
Hell hath no fury quite like that
Of the delete button.
The dreaded ‘unfriending’. haha! My town is ablaze in facebook wars. So happy I don’t have page.
Oh yes, I often times wish I didn’t have one either.
There comes another year…. and the story might repeat… lol!!! What a convenient appliance this button is… 😀
Yes, to tell you the truth, Erika, I’ve taken to unfollowing people more than unfriending them. It cuts down on FB traffic and it’s easier to reverse.
I understand you, Marissa. Having WP and FB is a lot to work through. I have Twitter too and actually Pinterest. But I am never on Pinterest and FB and Twitter are also not read completely… never get it done anyway…
I have Twitter and Pinterest too but am rarely on either. Have to keep it to a minimum or social media will consume our lives.
I’ve been averse to FB since day one. Felt like a whore setting up a WP blog and Twitter and Instagram. I’m just glad that it’s not as bad as I thought. It’s just a matter of filtering as you so delicately put it.
I’ve been averse to FB since day one as well so I guess it makes me hypocritical that I eventually broke down and got an account. Sometimes it’s fun to catch up with old friends but that’s about the only positive aspect. Definitely all about the filtering.
Are you trying to tell me something?
OMG! Did you NOT wish me a happy birthday??
I did in a round about way. When you get my age, you will tend to forget birthdays. They are just reminders that you are on the downside of things.
I don’t know. I have a twin sister and my husband’s birthday is the day after mine. It makes it a little harder to forget. It’s like freakin’ Christmas around here!
OMG, there’s two of you.
Funny, Don! I know I’m safe. ha ha!
Lucky for you to fly under the radar Olga!
I want to stay in your good graces so that I can keep enjoying your talent for humour.
Thank you…and I as well for your sharp haikus and awesome photos.
Awww! Many thanks, Marissa.
Bwahahaha! Perhaps give them the benefit of the doubt? C’mon give ’em another year! 😉
That is always the thing…do I give them another year?? It depends on who they are and how they respond to my other posts but I’ve taken to just unfollowing the people who don’t communicate with me rather than unfriending them. It’s much more reversible!
And more humane 😉
Belated birthday Melissa! 💜💜💜
It’s Marissa…and thank you!
Sorry I mixed it up somebody 😂😂😂😂
It’s okay. A common mistake.
hahahahaha! I’m not the only neurotic one worrying about whether the insult was deliberate, implied, or unintentional! 😉
No, not in the least and that’s part of why I wrote the poem. I know plenty of people that stress over a lack of likes and many who actively ‘slim down’ their FB friends after their birthdays.
Crikey…glad I’m in the clear on that one!
I find I have to unfollow people on FB too. I’m actually amazed people have the time to put all that stuff on there. I enjoyed FB early on but it has since wore thin. Yep you may have to go with that delete button!
I used to delete a lot of my friends but now unfollow a lot instead since it’s not as insulting or permanent. I don’t have many friends but still manage to end up with a lot of crap on my wall so if there are people out there who can’t be bothered to put a like on my pics once in a while, or wish me a happy birthday, why should I put an effort in? As I’m writing this, it occurs to me how childish I may sound but I guess that’s FB for you!
Actually I think that’s a good policy!
I didn’t wish you a happy birthday on purpose. I didn’t want you to think you got a year older.
Well it’s funny because I get a year younger so…
Aren’t you just 29 like every other woman?
25.
Wow so how long have you been 25?
I could tell you that but then I’d have to kill you.
Dislike?
Haha, well the wound of someone not wishing a happy birthday on facebook can be very deep and long lasting, I can totally understand your fury 😉
Thank you! Actually, it’s usually people I don’t interact with much anyway which kind of factors in when I’m considering whether or not to delete them.
Happy Birthday, Marissa – a few days after. I hope good fortune has settled in like a hound on a ham bone and your muse is quite bemused with delight.
Oh yes, most certainly. Thank you!
Lol….I am laughing so hard…that was priceless
Thanks Nimi!
I missed you birthday which is a shame so, a very happy belated birthday to you and I don’t think we are FB friends at the moment so you cannot “Unfollow” me or otherwise show your displeasure. I hope you had a lovely day
Well, I could unfollow your blog…but that would be my loss.
Well, I guess I missed the b-day post too, Marissa, but you know you’re wished a happy day from me everyday anyway! Loved this verse of course, I do believe you’re getting better as you get older….. 🙂
Who’s getting older?? Ha, ha! Thanks Torrie. No worries about missing my birthday. I really was aiming more at the FB crowd.
Oh, you know this is not too far from what I have been considering with my “once a month” blogging visitors on wordpress. They post lots of times a week, fill up my Reader and I push “like”and say a few words.
Really helps me feel Iike weeding out my fair weather friends, too. Wicked witch laughter (insert) here. Aw- hah hah ha!
Oh yes, if bloggers blog too often, sometimes I just have to cut down, especially if they’re not showing the love. FB is similar.
Thank gawd for FB birthday reminders or I would forget mine too. I try not to fixate on things though, unless it has to do with calories, my weight, my life flying by, etc.
It’s hard for me to forget my birthday. I have a twin sister and my husband’s birthday is the day after mine. It’s like Christmas around here!!
But birthdays are special, even when we are older so I hope all of yours are filled with joy.
Thank you Marissa! That’s quite a timely wish for me. 😉
And happy birthdays to all of you!
Oh really now???
…..
Wow, you have a twin! That must be great…But a fellow Virgo husband might be hard. Well, as I am also a Virgo (who should have recalled yr. birthday because it is the same as Amy Winehouse, lol, which I know we once chatted about) let me wish you a very happy year now.
Oh well, happy birthday to you too. When is yours?
Yes, I know it’s not the ideal to be matched with someone with your astrological sign but so far we’re doing okay.
I’m 9/6. Do you find you and your spouse criticize each other a lot? I am so critical I cannot find a spouse, LOL.
We are critical of each other but I think more me of him than him of me.
That’s why we call it settling down!
Happy belated birthday Marissa! Blessings.
Thank you Cecilia!
Facebook can be so mean some times… great poem.
It really can be! Thank you Dina!
I’m just coming off of a week-long Facebook vacation. It’s everything the brochure said it was and more. The food was great, and the company even greater.
Then, I signed in yesterday and binged on cat videos.
Oh yes, I’ll have to sign up for one of those vacations soon. It’s just so irresistible! I mean it’s so close and inexpensive! And also, gotta love those cats!
Very nice Marissa! I have only 13 friends on my fake Facebook. I never like anything and I just discovered you can turn off the newsfeed. I’m in paradise 😀
Sounds like Nirvana to me!
I’m so glad I looked at MY notifications on YOUR big day, my dear friend. Hehehe. 😉
Yes, Mark, your still up there. Thanks for your wishes.
I missed it. I feel terrible :(. Happy Belated New Birthday! I hope it turned out wonderfully!
Hey, better late than never! Thanks Benjamin!
If I was your facebook friend, I’d have wished you a happy birthday! I once joined facebook- after years of resisting it was when my mother’s group set up a facebook group and I didn’t want to be left out! I deleted my account after a couple of hours haha. Btw, I am picking a few poems of your to read based on catchy titles and or pictures 🙂
I probably should have deleted my FB after a few hours. Now, although I am often tempted, I think I’m in too deep. Thanks for trying to catch up!
So much to read : )
I know what you mean!
