Flailing and trailing, efforts unavailing
The masses assailing I hold tight the railing
Trying to ice skate and epically failing

Ouch!!!
Fro sure! I took my kids ice skating over the break. They set up a little rink in Burbank. I still have my ‘sea legs’ from many years ago. My kids…not so much (still learning). None of us actually fell though!
Glad you all made it home without any injuries! I used to love it and went with my dad once or twice a week ice skating over the winter. I must have been 7 or 8. I appreciated it mostly because we went in the evening and I could go to bed later!
Oh yeah, we’re all good. I used to go to a resort every year with my family in upstate New York that actually had an ice skating rink in it. I’m surprised I remembered after all these years. Of course I roller skated a bit too but that was all as a youngster. Apparently it makes for great memories for us though!
Yes, it seems☺ I never skated but it think it is different in many ways since it is not that “slippery”. I think once you knew how to you only need a bit practice but the basics stay. Like riding a bike.
❤ u.
Love to you too! Happy New Year!
Well this little gem could easily have been A A Milne writing a few lines for Winnie the Pooh!
xx
Yes, I forgot the line about when Eyeore slips on the ice and has to be air lifted to the hospital…
I don’t think Milne wrote that one…a Disney add on methinks? Did you know I played ‘pooh sticks’ under the very bridge mentioned in the books with my kids when they were little

I didn’t know that was a real place. Very lovely. Almost makes me regret the wise crack on Eyeore…almost…
That would be me too, I’m afraid. Such a glamorous sport though. I love the …ing rhymes 🙂
This was actually inspired by me taking my kids to a local rink last Sunday. I was surprised that I could still ice skate after so many years (though nothing to brag about). My kids were hugging the railing. They’re still learning. None of us fell though!
Excellent. It looks like a lot of fun, I’ve never tried. What a neat outing with the kiddos!
Yipes! Reminds me of this long line for ice skating yesterday at the Pershing Square. It made me wonder whether they were giving away ticket admissions…
We went to one that opened in Burbank last Sunday. My kids are still learning so there was a lot of hanging on the railing for them. They say they had fun though.
It is fun! First few timed will be more of hanging on the rail. Once they get a hang of it, especially with kids nowadays, they’ll be flying!
Hopefully this hasn’t opened your inner Tonya Harding.
Well, she’s always been near and dear to my heart. I think now she may well be my alter ego!
Fun though..
Yes, a good time was had by all!
BUT YOU TRIED IT!!!! 😉
Does that still count for something?
Heck yeah!!!
Wishing you a Happy New Year with the hope that you will have many blessings in the year to come!!!With love Maxima
Thank you! Same to you!
No bumps or bruises… all good.
Yes, I suppose that’s the bottom line…no pun intended!
Too funny, thank you for saving the world from stupidity, it’s been a blast!
This Northerner has to admit that I don’t ice skate. At all. *Epically failing* would describe it perfectly.
The only ice I will happily entertain involves an adult beverage.
I did think that was a prerequisite to living in Canada. Aren’t you afraid that one day they’ll find out and have you kicked out?
It’ll probably happen on the same day they discover I hate hockey
I love your poems which come out like rap lyrics. They must take a lot of work.
I think this is a brilliant way of blogging, Marissa. Share a photo and so easy to write a short comment. I have started to do this the past six months and it has made my blogging experience much better.
I notice that your blogs have changed to a shorter format. I always find your blogs enjoyable.
Actually, this one just came to me. It was a little bit of a challenge to find all the words that ended with -ailing, but flailing, railing and failing were all written well in advance.
I am not saying easy as mine are but your “epic” poems I imagine take quite a lot of time. Why not “skate along” once in awhile? 🙂 I did read in your comments you really did skate and yet, didn’t fall! Hurray, Marissa! 🙂
Yes, made it home in one piece! Thanks Robin!
A little Dr. Seuss… and a lot of me attempting to ice skate. Mixed well and served. 🙂
Thanks Todd! Glad I could capture your ice skating experience.
It was horrible. 🙂
Caption: Didn’t I tell you not to text when ice skating.
No, you didn’t tell me and it seemed like a great idea at the time.
Haha, well as they say, when you fail, Try try again (or something like that ) 😀
I think it’s, if at first you don’t succeed, try try again…and hopefully with minimal injuries!
Oh yes that is hard. I seriously no! I love ice skating but am really concerned about doing so on account of my back issues. Happy new year, my dear dear friend!
Oops, Google screwdriver up and I did not edit.
LOL Now my spellcheck! I cannot win today. Tee hee …
Oh yes, wouldn’t want to cause any further injury to the back.
Hi Marissa, I just wanted to let you know that I’m back with another blog award, ha ha, so I will be mentioning you in my post. Of course, no action is necessary on your part. I certainly enjoy reading your blog. Happy new year again!
Oh yes, I saw it! Always appreciated even if I don’t get a chance to respond.
I could roller skate like a BOSS growing up. I mean it. Queen of the roller rink.
Every time I’d put on ice skates though (or rollerblades) (or skies), I’d spend more time on my butt than upright.
Really? That’s funny! I always thought it was my ability to roller skate that helped me ice skate as I don’t really remember ever learning to do either. Maybe a mental thing??
Maybe? Or something with center of gravity shifting? Dang I should’ve paid more attention in physics class.
I don’t think anyone paid much attention in physics class. I know my professor graded on a curve. Only way anyone came out alive.
Simply perfect. Its so interesting that your skating and I’m sanding. Feet in sand. Also, I found this funny, in your recent comments there is my photo, and then underneath Christy Anna’s, the comment above this one. It almost looks like an abstracted version of my gravatar?
Oh how funny! That’s true, you know!! Yes, can never quite get used to the fact that it’s summer in some places in the world!
have you ever had a hot summer?
Oh yes, ours can get brutal. Last summer it barely wanted to get below 90.
Oh so it is actually warm there? I’m confused
Yes, I’m in L.A. so we get hot summers and falls, winters are generally on the chilly side but almost never gets below freezing (32 degrees F), even at night. It never snows, just sometimes in the mountains. Oddly enough, we tend to get overcast chilly springs.
Thanks for the memories…la la la la la! Your poetic words brought me to wonderful, childhood experiences skating on frozen ponds. Never enjoyed skating in circles to music in an arena in later years. There’s something amazing about skating out in nature.
I have never skated on anything but a roller rink. I don’t think I’ve ever had the opportunity, but if I did, I’d be scared there might be thin ice. It must be lovely though!
I agree about the dangers of thin ice, but most northerners know when the ice is ready. Has to be minus 20 or colder for a few weeks. Too mild so far this winter. Have a great day!
See? I’m an amateur.
You’re just a hot climate lady!
you always have such practical story and a great lesson to learn…
Thanks so much!
This poem made chuckle for it took me back to the days when I when I would skate, unfortunately for me would always fall hard on my base. 😉
Well the, this one truly is for you!
Ouch! 🙂
